The magnificent, misunderstood creatures

Elephants, you have probably heard of them. They are big and strong creatures, that’s why they were used in wars and are nowadays used for religious purposes, work at timber yards and for entertainment.

But for that they are extremely tortured. They are hit with sticks with sharp hooks at the edge. People think that they are strong and big but they are very intelligent, sensitive and caring animals from the inside.

Elephants in a national park in Kenya found an old lost lady who couldn’t see well. The elephants started to guard her. They had encased her sort of a cage to protect her from hyenas. That seems extraordinary to us but it comes naturally to elephants.

Still, people don’t understand that they are very intelligent and beautiful animals and keep torturing them. According to IUCN the population of Asian elephants has declined by at least 50% over the last three generations and have been listed endangered since 1986.

The estimated population of these creatures is around 25,600 to 32,750 in the wild. Many people are trying to help these creatures but it is believed that once an elephant has been captured from the wild, and domesticated he/she will never be accepted by other wild elephants.

Many elephants die because of habitat loss, some calves (baby elephants) also die because excessive hitting. Many people and government organisations help to save these beautiful and interesting animals. But it’s not enough we need to stop all of these things to save them.

We need to stop deforestation, instead of using elephants at timber yards we could use trucks, instead of using them at festivals in south India we could use decorated vehicles. Kerala has more than seven hundred domesticated elephants. Most of them are owned by temples. They are extremely tortured even in the temples. We all Know God wants peace but the people still don’t understand and keep hurting them. If we keep hurting them like these soon the species will vanish and that’s bad the future won't be able to see these magnificent creatures. We really need to save these creatures. So let’s go and save these creatures from getting extinct, save them from being tortured, and save them from habitat loss.
